Frontline Catalysts is a mission-driven organization empowering frontline youth to lead the movement for transformative climate justice. We equip middle through high school-age students with knowledge, skills, and inspiration to become environmental advocates and leaders. Our holistic Leadership Development Program, grounded in Ethnic Studies, empowers low-income youth in Title 1 schools (grades 6-12). 

JOB OPPORTUNITY  

We are searching for a compassionate, energetic, experienced Climate Justice Education Director to join our, dynamic team. As the Director, you will be responsible for overseeing and implementing a high-impact climate justice leadership program offered in-classroom, after school, and during the summer. This is a unique opportunity for the right person to contribute to and influence an emergent nonprofit’s program and outreach strategy, collaborating with the Executive Director and other team members. 

WHAT YOU WILL DO  

Instruction and Facilitation: 

  • Work closely with teachers and instructors, while actively engaging in all aspects of the program. Occasionally leading instruction activities as needed. 
  • Oversee curriculum and teaching materials to foster critical thinking, active participation, and creative problem-solving, that nurtures students as climate change leaders. 
  • Integrate community partners effectively into program projects, including community science, field trips, data collection, and hands-on experiences. 
  • Expand and develop youth activism and advocacy through hands-on outside classroom experiences and create opportunities for community participation and youth leadership. 
  • Work with afterschool instructors to foster a supportive and inclusive learning environment. Program Management: 
  • Oversee program logistics, including scheduling, budgeting, and resource allocation, to ensure smooth implementation and achievement of program goals. 
  • Assess program effectiveness, teacher instruction, student engagement, and skills development, making necessary adjustments to enhance the student experience. 
  • Develop and implement measurement and reporting tools for program impact and outcomes. Contributes to the overall growth and health of the organization. 

Staff Supervision and Training: 

  • Train and supervise part-time instructors for afterschool program and coordinate with College Corp Fellows’ supervisor, ensuring their professional development and adherence to program objectives. Provide ongoing guidance and support to staff members, conducting regular evaluations and offering constructive feedback.

WHO WE’RE LOOKING FOR  

Ideal Qualifications 

  • At least five years of classroom and/or outdoor teaching experience at the middle or high school level to culturally and economically diverse populations. 
  • Bachelor’s degree in environmental science, Ethnic Studies, education, or a related field. Demonstrated expertise in climate justice issues, environmental science, or grassroots organizing. Experience in curriculum development, program management, and educational instruction, preferably with middle and high-school-aged students. 
  • Bilingual in Spanish, preferred 

Skills/Abilities 

  • Excellent organizational skills, effective time management, and efficient planning. 
  • Ability to evaluate program gaps and take initiative. 
  • Excellent writing and editing skills for diverse audiences. 
  • Strong collaborative leadership skills to motivate and inspire students, staff, and community members. Excellent communication and interpersonal skills, capable of building relationships and fostering partnerships with diverse stakeholders. 
  • Familiarity with community-based organizations and advocacy campaigns. 
  • Proficient in using technology for educational purposes and data analysis. 
  • Commitment to diversity, equity, and inclusion in all aspects of the program. 

THE POSITION  

The Climate Justice Education Director is a full-time, salaried, exempt position. This position is supervised by the Executive Director. The salary for this position is $85,000 with healthcare and dental coverage, optional 401(k) participation, and a monthly technology-use stipend. Time off includes 12 days of Paid Time Off, 12 Paid holidays, and 6 additional paid days off during OUSD’s winter break. All staff is required to be fingerprinted, TB tested, and vaccinated against Covid-19, with limited exceptions for medical or religious reasons.
